Dangers Associated with Household Products

Household cleaning products can be potentially fatal, especially when in the hands of small children. In Australia almost 5,000 children are hospitalised a year due to accidental poisoning and almost 50 children a day are treated by medical professionals for poisoning, often this is due to household cleaning products, pesticides, personal grooming products and conventional and natural medicines.
It is important to pay attention when purchasing hazardous products to ensure that you try and select a product that performs the task that you are after whilst choosing a product which is the least dangerous and if possible one which will cause the least amount of damage to our environment when it is disposed of down our waterways or in our land fills.

Using some strong chemicals can be unavoidable for some people, but it is important when using these chemicals to use protective clothing to prevent injury by using goggles, gloves and a mask if it is required. It is also important to ensure that chemicals can be kept in a safe place where animals and children cannot get access. Many of the chemicals around our home have been linked to causing cancer, liver and kidney problems when used improperly so take care when using these products to ensure that you are not unnecessarily exposing your body to risks which are avoidable.

There are natural products which can be purchased for use around the house that are not only safer for you but also the environment. These products usually use organic ingredients and are not tested on animals.
