Eye sight can deteriorate due to a variety of reasons as we get older however blindness seems to occur more in people who suffer from other conditions which contribute to their vision loss. Age related macular degeneration is the main cause of loss of vision in our society especially for those who are elderly.

So what can you do to help reduce your risk of losing the precious gift of sight? Your eyes need to be looked after like any other organ in the body. Most people have their eyes exposed to direct UV rays from the sun for most of their life, especially during childhood. It is important to buy a good pair of sunglasses that can protect your eyes from damage, and it is equally important to ensure that you children have sunglasses which are protective and durable to help prevent any ultraviolet damage to their eyes. We often think about protecting our skin from the sun but we often forget about our eyes, I’m sure you can think of a time when you have been sunburnt and how painful it was, imagine what damage was done to you eyes with that same exposure. Excessive sun exposure to the eyes is also one of the contributing factors to the development of cataracts so ensure the sunglasses block out 95% of UV rays.
